Expl. '94 fuel performance

Question:

Hello Jorge, >I’ve just bought this Explorer Sport ‘94 (automatic) and I’m having a real >bad performance in Miles per Litre. >Does anybody know any hint for saving fuel, like driving at 1500 RPM, or >something like that?

My 1994 Explorer, 4.0 Liter V6, automatic gets 15 to 18 liters per 100km, this are 15.7 to 13 mpg or 4.1 to 3.4 mpl. I think, this is okay. Using the german autobahn (speed 80 to 100 miles, most time 95 miles, 150 km/h) the car gets under 15 liters. In the city are 18 liters normal. Peter

Response:

From my ‘91, 4ltr V6 EFI Explorer I used to get 4.1 to 4.4 mpl. That’s about 300 miles on a full tank of 72 lt. Interstate driving at 65 to 70 mph would get me more towards 5! The only way I found to save fuel was to trade it in for the SOHC model. I’ve just bought this Explorer Sport ‘94 (automatic) and I’m having a real bad performance in Miles per Litre. Does anybody know any hint for saving fuel, like driving at 1500 RPM, or something like that? Thanks. JLD
