HELP! I took the right front wheel off

Question:

1994 Explorer 4 WD Automatic 4.0 V6 I took the right front wheel off to check the brake pads and when the wheel came off the big hub came off too.  There seems to be nothing holding it on except the wheel???  Is this normal???  I put the hub and the wheel back on, tightened the lug nuts and now I have a clicking noise as the wheel spins ( still on the jack ).  Thanks!! — Daniel L. Hello Mr. Fun Who threw away those washers – the dealership? Although I do my own bearing repacking, etc. I’d be really mad if someone did work on my Explorer and left those washers off. You shouldn’t have to have the hub come off every time to take off a tire. Sounds like really sloppy technicians who need to find another line of work! I recommend replacing those washers. Just my two cents :o ) Tony Giorgianni .

Ah!  Finally found my Haynes manual!  Page 1-35 shows a picture of the retaining washers that my Ex is missing!  I’ll pick some new ones up from the dealer.  Thanks again everybody! daniel

Ford dealer took mine off too while servicing the wheel bearings. The next time I rotated my tires, the hub came off as well. No problems except I believe they should be indexed. I went back to the dealer and made them give me new retainers. – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – >Ah!  Finally found my Haynes manual!  Page 1-35 shows a picture of the >retaining washers that my Ex is missing!  I’ll pick some new ones up from the >dealer.  Thanks again everybody! >daniel
