Rancho RSX shocks…..Any Good?

Question:

I have a 1994 Explorer 4 Dr 4×4 XLT and it needs new shocks.  I’ve read the problems with the Edelbrocks and Gabriels, but does anyone know anything about the RSX?  Any other recommendations?  I just want to get rid of the roll and dipping when I brake.  A shock that is a bit stiffer would be nice too.  Also, will the RSX or any other shock raise the ride height of my Explorer? Thanks for the help!!!             Cory Smith

Response:

For myself, I went with the newer Rancho RSX shocks. They were advertised as self-adjusting, gas charged, and came with boots and special silicone bushings. I didn’t want a bone-jarring ride when hitting bumps and dips. I wanted a shock that was better than the original, and fit a larger spectrum for all types of driving, not just serious off-roading. So far, after 10,000 miles, I am real pleased with the way they perform. I purchased the set of shocks for about $200 from Desert Rat in Arizona. Summit also carries them. Ron
