Very Rough Idle

Question:

I have a 1994 Explorer XLT with 81,000 miles. Periodically when the vehicle is started, it will run very rough and will die when the accelerator is depressed.  After subsequent restarts the vehicle will run fine.  In addition, during one problem period, the vehicle restarted when I had the accelerator depressed. Any thoughts would be appreciated.  Also, are there any problems which I should look for with a vehicle with of this age and mileage.

Response:

Check your fuel filter, fuel pressure regulator, and fuel pump.  Thats in order of expense. JS

Response:

Thanks for the insight.  Replacing the fuel filter is not problem, any comments on the procedure to check the fuel regulator or fuel pump.  Is this contained in the after market service manuals. Thanks again. – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – > Check your fuel filter, fuel pressure regulator, and fuel pump.  Thats in > order of expense. > JS > I have a 1994 Explorer XLT with 81,000 miles.
