'97 lift question

Question:

> Just curious, do these lift kits void your warranty?

That is a very complicated question. They shouldn’t affect some items, but could affect others. A lot depends on your dealer and what failed and how. But a lift kit cannot void your entire warranty. Regards, Ed White

If you do the torsion lift, then Ford would probably void your warranty on your torsion bars, shocks and CV joints. In other words anything that you modify beyond the manufacturer’s specifications they will likely void. It won’t void your warranty on non-related things like your engine, AC, radio, tires, ect. The list you were probably looking at was just the Featured Explorers List. Those are just 31 out of the 2861 registered users. There is a board that allows people to post about their Explorer, but it still isn’t representative of the numerous people that are on the board. Rick even frequents this board, so you will probably see a post or two here from his as well. Robert Got questions?  Get answers over the phone at Keen.com. Go to www.4×4central.com and ask look around. There is a lot of information on lifting late model Explorers. A couple of people have even modified Ranger lift kits to get 4" – 5 1/2". Many people there with 2" of lift. Robert Got questions?  Get answers over the phone at Keen.com. Up to 100 minutes free! http://www.keen.com

Does ANYONE out there with a ‘97 XLT 4d 4WD know how hard it is to add 2 or so inches of lift?  No one that I’ve seen carries any lift kits for the ‘97, and the dealer won’t touch it.  Les Schwabs said they can do it, but they didn’t sound very convincing.  Please HELP!! Tony

Response:

All I have ever heard you should do is to arrange the springs to lift the body slightly to allow for bigger tires.  You should be able to find a kit offering new mounts. I don’t think you’ll get much benefit from your plan though. Chuck
