dynamat

Question:

Ok…but i still don’t think it’s really necessary to have Dynamat or the equivalent.  For cutting down road noise, i think the good spray of undercoating will not only do the same thing, but protect the undercarriage as well. hi group, i am about to replace my speakers, add a sub and an amp to my 95 xlt. has anyone installed dynamat or accumat?  where did you apply it and would you recommend it? tia harry

Response:

MY entire system is powered by a Kicker 435ix 4 channel amp for the door speakers and a Soundstream 500s powering a single 10" Kicker Competition sub in a sealed box.  If you’re just replacing speakers and adding a sub, i don’t think stuff like Dynamat is necessary.  If there is something loose and rattling after you install the stuff….look for it if you can and rectify the problem.  The Explorer’s interior seems to hold up pretty well to lots of bass.  I haven’t heard any rattling with or without my system blasting.  hehe.  My Explorer is 6yrs old btw. but, the one thing you have to remember about dynamat is that, even the smallest amount of it will make a difference….. try it yourself, replace the speakers, in all four doors, take it for a drive for about an hour, jamming on the radio… then stop by one of the chain car audio stores, circut city or best buy or whatever regional chain you have and pick up a speaker kit, its about 40 bucks and comes with two sheets, preformed to fit in the speaker holes, then reinstall the speakers with the dynamat in, you should notice a huge difference in overall sound, mostly in the midrange response of the speakers…. i tried it, mostly because i run a electronics store, and my little car guys talked me into it, because they can talk me into buying anything… now, most of the truck interior is dynamatted, not just for the stereo, but it cuts down on road noise, and engine noise.  i got about 4 rolls of the regular dynamat, and 1 roll of the high performance stuff (thicker) to put on the doors.  huge difference. just my opionion, david 2001 explorer sport 4×4
