RCCL Rhapsody – Nov. 11
Question:
We’re on the Rhapsody out of Galveston on Nov. 11th. One stop is Playa del Carmen. (We have been to Cancun several times.) Is this stop just for taking a bus or tour to Cancun? Or is there something to do right at the port? Also, we haven’t been on the Rhapsody before. What are your recommendations or thoughts on the ship. (Only other RCCL cruise was on the Monarch.) Can’t WAIT!! Beth
Response:
were on the same cruise in December, from what i understand the stop in Playa Del Carmin is just to drop off a tour. the stop is less than an hour. But i dont know what tour it is. __ /7__/7__/7__ ::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::… Rhapsody Of The Seas, Dec 9th,2001

Hi Beth, The stop in Playa del Carmen is strictly for people taking tours from there and is there only long enough to drop them off. I believe the tour was the Tulum Ruins, but there may have been more. CCL does not give you the option of getting off there if you haven’t purchased an excursion, sorry. I can’t tell you anymore about Playa as I did not go there myself. Nor can I make any recommendations of the ship as I was the Inspiration out of New Orleans. But, according to the brochures I have read, RCL stops there for tour debarkation only as well. Good luck and enjoy your cruise! Playa del Carmen is a stop to drop off people taking the bus tour to Xcaret, which is a "eco-archeological park". It’s really amazing, sort of an open-air zoo (moats instead of fences, huge habitats for the animals)/adventure park (you can float through an underground river, go snorkeling, etc)/ museum (Mayan ruins and exhibits). I highly recommend this trip, as it leaves plenty of time to shop in Cozumel (the bus leaves from Playa del Carmen, but meets up with the ship in Cozumel). If you go, go to the butterfly garden first (we found it later in the afternoon, but the signs said it is most spectacular in the morning). It’s a garden area with a fine net for a roof to keep the butterflies in. Really amazing. Have fun! Amy

The Rhapsody is a beautiful ship, especially the Broadway Melodies Theatre ( a real theatre, not just a show lounge), and the Solarium! You’ll love it!
