Opinion on aftermarket mobile entertainment system

Question:

I am interested in installing an aftermarket mobile dvd player/moinotr system on my 2002 Explorer. I am looking at out-of-dash type player because I would only bring the player along when we go on a long road trip with the kids. I would like to get some advice and recommendation with such installation. Thanks in advance Pat

Response:

Depending on how much you want to spend, you can do anything.  I personally like the setup with two screens, one in the back of each headrest.  It gives you more options and the kids or whoever can see it easier.  You also have the option of adding individual controls/listening devices and if you choose later on to add a video game system or get a satellite feed, they both don’t have to watch or do the same thing.  The center console is a good place for the DVD player if you don’t mind giving up the space.  Then a FM modulator gives you the option of either listening to the radio/CD or what ever they are watching on the TV’s. This costs more and you can’t just remove it when you don’t want it in there. Otherwise they have a console all in one removable units, but you need the space between the front seats like most minivans have. You could get a ceiling mounted one but I beleive they installed to stay as well. Thats my 2 cents.  Hope it helps. Joey
